AWAKENING

I deviated through the forest. This district was unequivocally outlandish to me. The immense forest of pine trees were cloaked in penumbras, and, mounds of snow that would fall occasionally. The floccose snow came up to my abdomen, so I had to trudge through it using more strength than it would take to simply walk. I had been pushing through the snow sedulously for three days now, all the while passing through indistinguishable provinces. My paws ached and stung, enduring not only the oppressively freezing temperatures, but also the elongated trek. My ears and nose were insensitive with cold. Splitting wind and flurries of snow flung into my eyes. The wind howled menacingly, convulsing even the mightiest of pines.

My heart skipped a beat. Was that a howl?, I thought to myself. The wind screamed so agonizingly in my ears, it was difficult to tell. A second howl, joined by a third, a fourth, a fifth, ascended into the air. The haunting melody was undoubtably howling. My instincts kicked in. My ears laid back and I crouched in the snow, dread overwhelming my senses. There was more howling. This time, it was a little bit closer. It was as if the howling was coming from everywhere, as if even the earth and the sky were contributing to this haunting, yet angelic harmony.

Is it possible that someone's tracking me? In this weather? I laid in the snow uncomfortably, the snow seeping into my abdomen. I angled my ears upwards, rotating them outwards to apprehend any further sound betraying their location. I heard nothing. Although the screeching wind was still pummeling my eardrums, it felt as if there were simply never anything there. As if I might as well have been deaf. There was something about the sound; something that I craved about their complete harmony, that I lacked in solitude. It was in that following moment that I realized how empty I was. I waited in the same place, crouched in the snow, overnight. Still I heard nothing. I drifted in and out of a light sleep. By the time morning came, a buildup of snow had been pushed up against my back, presumably by the wind. The wind had quieted, and oversized snowflakes fell indolently. I was in a quixotic state, and the snow falling from a contiguous conifer with a thump reminded me where I was. Well, I didn't actually know where I was, so it didn't matter. There had been unequivocally no signs of the wolves I could have sworn that I heard the night prior. I had to keep moving. I was still escaping the life that I left behind. I had to keep going. With renewed determination, I initiated plowing through the snow. Virtually the split second I stood, my diminutive, ravenous frame was impacted by a pair of prodigious forepaws. I made a heavy collision with a solidified snow bank, sliding to the foot and collapsing. My head rung and my eyes ached with dizziness momentarily. Standing over me was a monumental wolf. I grinded my teeth in pain. The male's stark-white fur fluctuated with the gaining wind, his faded green visionaries glowering down at me. Suddenly they glistened with brimming malachite, unpredictable, edge.

I simply laid there, at the foot of the snowbank, reverting his discordant gaze. I hardly noticed the wolves flanking him, two on each side. As my vision cleared, I noticed his striking snarl, and a dreadfully gory scar along his shoulder. He advanced unpredictably, and I flinched. Finally, he spoke.

"Who are you, and what makes you think you have the authority to come here as you please?", The male bellowed, his lips twitching briefly to reveal pearly blades of teeth. "I apologize... I've traveled a remarkable distance, and I was looking for somewhere to stay.", I said, avoiding eye contact with the daunting authoritarian. "Define 'somewhere'. A destination? A Pack?", The male's eyes glistened with pride as he said the word Pack. "Well, I've never really been in a pack before... I was just thinking..." I trailed off, envisioning a beautiful grove, lush plants, and a small stream with a waterfall. That's what I had been picturing for myself... Up until the point where I had heard the howling. When I heard the beauty of that unison, it made me rethink everything. My entire life, as anti-social as nature would allow. And my plans for the future, living in solitude, with a beautiful home just for myself, just seemed so selfish at this point. I did want to join a pack. This pack. But I wasn't about to tell that to the brute standing over me. I rolled to my paws, and I noticed how all of the wolves surrounding the male tensed, ready to defend him. Before I could speak, the male said: "My name is Asio. I'm the Beta of Reign of Canis." He dipped his head. "It's unfortunate that you trespassed, however, I would like to introduce you to my Pack." He paused, already rotating his frame to head in another direction. "Might I ask your name?" "I'm Ophion." Based on a True Story

REGULATIONS

I. Respecting Authoritarians

Refusal to obey canines of a higher rank is a serious offense, and will not be tolerated. Depending on the degree of defiance, punishments can include Pack humiliation, exile, or in extreme cases, execution.
II. Respectiful Behavior
Respect is the main principle of ROC that we give all members. Respect is a great concept, equally so towards other groups. When meeting a new member, you will treat them with the same respect you would a regular member. Disrespect towards each other will result in punishment. We are family, after all.
III. Seriousness
When the Matriarch is on or wants to serious roleplay, other members must respect her wishes. Continuing to act goofy, childish or immature will result in punishment. If you cannot be serious and want to act immature and childish, do not disturb ones who are being serious. Inappropriate behavior or harsh language will not be tolerated at any time, and are punishable by Pack Humiliation.
IV. Departure and Arrival
You only have two chances with us. Leaving is the first offense, returning will result with time in the Forgotten rank for a period of 1 depending on why you left. Leaving the second time will result in you not coming back. We are not a hotel where you can just come and go. Members within ROC are intended to be dedicated and loyal, leaving and coming back leaves a suspicion of spying also. The Superiors don't take well to traitors, so don't be the one to get on their bad side with the departure and arrival.
V. Activeness
You must be active enough to stay a member in ROC. If you are aware you will be absent, please alert the Matriarch or a Superior Officer. Real life happens, we understand. Only after 10 days or more of unforetold inactivity will you be considered for Exile.

WEEKLY PLOT

Decorative-page-dividers-clipart-best-Vj3Kx2-clipart

The Reign of Canis has a weekly plot for roleplay inspiration. Every week composes of something new, whether it's an obstacle, a series of obstacles, or a time of peace. Whatever the scenario may be, we continue our training, patrolling, hunting, etc. in an adaptive way.

(Every plot is chosen by an in-comment poll)

This week's plot:

During a recent storm, the streams and ponds have been returned to the forest. Over the past couple of days, the territory has became lush with herbs and prey. All seems well for the family of canines. On a chilled summer day, twolegs decide to swim in the nearby stream, creating a ravenous fire. This fire will spread mercilessly, the intensity escalating until the forest is charred and ash clouds the air. Moreover, this wildfire will ravage the Pack's home. This catastrophic destruction will expose the strongest and the bravest canines of ROC.

A maximum of 5 people will acquire minor injuries/illnesses.

A maximum of 1 person will acquire major illness/injury.

If you wish to participate (sustain injuries/illnesses), please fill out the form below in the comments. Requests must be approved by the Matriarch.
